The wide variety of applications and processing technologies in web production pose a challenge to card clothing manufacturers in particular. For nowadays a roller card is still used in most nonwoven facilities. The various roller card suppliers rely in part on different concepts, which in turn is reflected in the wide variety of roller arrangements.

The interaction between these rollers, their diameters and speeds, the drafts (positive and negative) as well as the distances from each other are crucial for the quality and appearance of the web at the machine output end.

It is clear that the roller wires take on a variety of roles which also determine the web quality: opening, separating, parallelising, condensing, drafting, stripping, combing or randomising - these and many other functions need to be fulfilled using different wire shapes in the roller card.
